Road Biking

I remember living in Enumclaw when Landon was a baby and I'd come home from work and this girl who lived next door would be coming in from her car wearing spandex and shoes that clicked on the cement when she walked. I loved the way her shoes clicked on the cement. And I loved the bike grease on her leg. I didn't really love her spandex, but since that time, I always thought it would be cool to wear clicky shoes and ride on a road bike. And maybe I'd even get spandex.

We've had our bikes for almost a year and I still love my shoes as they click on our hallway floors as I go out to ride. I don't know why I love spandex and bike jerseys and gloves and helmets and all the other gear and clipping into my pedals and riding next to cars. I feel cool, like that neighbor girl. Maybe I look ridiculous, but I don't care. And even if I am slow, all my get-up makes me feel fast and aero-dynamic, like a machine. I really like it and I'd like it if all of my family members would purchase bikes and spandex. Then we could all be super fast aero-dynamic machines together...and that would be a lot of super fast aero dynamic machines.

Enough about me...Erin was so lucky to tour the entire perimeter of the island on his bike with the gang (I got to babysit the kiddos). The "epic" ride was a 3 day tour 230 miles of crazy climbs and descents. His training included two 40 mile rides where his legs cramped so bad he had to stop. But on the epic ride, he was a machine. They called him "The Quiet Giant." He said each day he felt stronger than the day before. I think it's because the week of the ride he was going to bed by 10 every night and drinking more water than normal. It's a good habit (as it's already past 10:30pm and I just finished my smoothie). Anyway here are pictures of his tour de Okinawa.

This guy put the gang to shame as he climbed this hill
on a one speeder pulling his house and property.
