Turkey for me and a turkey for you...

It was a big day today! No morning workout. Sleep in. Build airport runways out of cardboard and tape all around the living room with Landon. Library trip. Grocery store. Bring in groceries. Feed hungry kids. Put kid to sleep. Watch the snow fall outside....why not make a turkey dinner too? So that's what we did. Never before have we attempted this feat. But with Martha at my side (plus two cookbooks, one pamphlet and my mini chef in training) I felt confident. Landon and I ripped bread into a bowl side by side on the floor. He said he likes the 99 cent store bought bread better than my homemade. We used both. Then Landon worked on getting the turkey out of it's netting with his scissors. He's quite the pro. He tried cutting the quilt on our bed the other morning. After the netting, the turkey wrapper was cut and then he attempted to slice away the turkey itself. But, the blood gushing from the wrapping stopped him in his tracks. "Mom!!! Why is there blood gushing from the chicken? That is the most disgusting thing I've ever seen!" And he was disgusted until I made the turkey start to dance around. But he wouldn't dare try and stuff the turkey. He got a little brave and at least touched the top of the bird. He was more interested in the makeshift turkey roaster and rack we concocted. A trow-away roasting pan with metal skewers poked through either side for a rack should work, right? Wrong. After 45 minutes of poking, cutting, ripping, wrestling, I gave up. Landon gave up on me as soon as I started getting snippy with him for playing with the skewers and using them like drumsticks on every appliance in the kitchen. He went back to cutting and taping his 11 foot long airport runway. In the end, an ordinary casserole dish on top of a baking sheet with a cooling rack on top. Very high tech. End of story: The picture above explains it all....Sorry about the epistle, but, c'mon, it was my first turkey.

Valentines Day

Ahhh, the good ol' holiday of love. We felt much loved by our friends today. It started when our good friends the Harris's came over to deliver valentines. Landon and his good buddies Toby and Ben quickly turned our house into a fort of some type. I think every book, box, toy, you name it was used in this venture. It was sweet! Amidst the fort making, our friends Angi and Addi came over to drop off valentines. Poor Addi. Harassed by all the boys again. However, she is mighty clever with the power drill. So, aside from forts, power drills, sword fighting, harassing Addi, and some minor flesh wounds, valentines were exchanged, love was shared, and memories were made. But there was more fun to be had...

Jo, Ezra, Saul, and Heidi stopped by next. More sword fighting, racing/chasing, and laughter ensued. It seems from these pictures that Landon's bunk bed is popular. Well, apparently it is the place to be. It actually works wonders. If there is sadness, grumpiness, anything but happiness, simply place child on Landon's bunk bed and insta-happy-child is produced. If you don't believe me, just bring your kids on over. Or simply give it a whirl yourself. It was quite a love filled afternoon. But more love showed up at dinner time....
Our Valentines day dinner menu: homemade pizza. But not in the shape of a heart. I didn't want to work that hard. Plus, I don't think I could even do it, unless it was an accident. Anyway, Erin's patient canceled (big surprise) so he was able to show up for dinner ...with flowers, chocolates, and soda! That's right folks. Erin made Valentines day a party for me and the family. Landon liked the soda, I liked the flowers and Taylor liked the chocolate. All in all we had a great day!

Palmers have finally made it to the 21st century

Yes, finally the Palmer's have a blog. We are "in." Let me just tell you all the technological advancements we've made since our move to Boston in 2005. High speed internet--we are converted forever even if it's not free. Cell phones-although my voice mail has yet to be set up (next year maybe). Um....and that's it. C'mon, that's still pretty good. But now we are bloggers. Let's see how it goes.

Here are some recent pictures of the family--excluding the picture taker of course. The subjects in these pictures are all sick with some type of illness. Erin is winning the award though, for the longest bout--going on 4 weeks. Around this time of year since we've been in Boston, Erin has come down with something:
2006-poison ivy (don't recommend this to anyone);
2007-appendectomy (during his first set of dental boards-don't recommend that either);
2008-Some type of lung disease. Hasn't been clinically diagnosed, but it's not very attractive.
2009-??? Cant's wait to find out
